After spending the first few days on the trails of Les Arcs 2000, breathing in the fresh mountain air and relaxing on the green grass, on the third day of our stay we decided to visit Bourg-Saint-Maurice. This town is a hub of mountain activities, a place where culture and nature blend harmoniously, creating a vivid picture of life in the Alps.
How to get from Les Arcs 1950 to Bourg-Saint-Maurice
From Les Arcs 1950 or Les Arcs 2000 it is very easy to get to Bourg-Saint-Maurice by bus and then use the funicular. Right in front of the Hotel Le Prince Des Cimes, where we were staying, is the bus stop, which took us to Les Arcs 1600, from where we took the funicular.
Buses run at 15-minute intervals, and surprisingly, in the summer in this region, transport is free, so I didn’t pay for either the bus or the funicular.
The descent from Les Arcs 1950 to Bourg-Saint-Maurice takes about 30 minutes. This method allowed us to avoid potential inconvenience and get straight into the heart of the town, bypassing traffic or the stress of getting lost in the car.
This allowed us to admire the Alpine landscape in all its splendour. And the funicular ride was a superb experience, with breathtaking views that fill your soul with beauty. The state-of-the-art funicular offers a 360-degree panoramic view.
Bourg-Saint-Maurice – what to visit
Bourg-Saint-Maurice, the capital of Haute Tarentaise, with a rich pastoral history, is situated at the crossroads of the high Alpine mountains: Beaufortain – Mont Blanc – Vanoise.
Various sporting events take place here throughout the year (canoeing, cycling, paragliding, running, skiing…).
Arriving in Bourg-Saint-Maurice, we discovered a vibrant, lively town that harmoniously blends history with modernity. Its picturesque streets, lined with shops, cafes and restaurants, invite you to explore and sample the local produce.
Quiet cafés and restaurants tempt you to savour French cuisine, while narrow streets are decorated with colourful mural art, giving the city a playful air.
The pedestrian streets are lively, hosting markets where you can find everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to handicrafts.
Last but not least, “La Dame Blanche” and other boutiques open their doors to offer you a wide range of souvenirs and art objects, perfect souvenirs of your trip.
Bourg-Saint-Maurice, with its authentic charm and its open air to adventure and exploration, remains a jewel in the heart of the French Alps. The town is a story waiting to be told, with every nook and cranny offering new opportunities to get to know this unique region even better. And so, my story will continue, with other experiences and places discovered in the Alps steeped in history and beauty.
