As I explored the narrow streets and admired the old brick houses, I discovered not only the timeless beauty of this place, but also a part of me that yearns for simplicity and authenticity.

Certaldo is a medieval town in Toscana, Italy, located about 40 kilometres northwest of Florence. It is known as the birthplace of the famous writer Giovanni Boccaccio, author of the Decameron. To get to Certaldo from Florence, you have several transportation options, each offering you a comfortable and efficient way to explore this beautiful area of Tuscany.

  • By Train The easiest and most efficient way to travel from Florence to Certaldo is by train. Santa Maria Novella train station in Florence offers regular regional train services to Certaldo. The journey takes about an hour and is an economical option, with scenic views along the way. To plan your journey, check the train timetable on Trenitalia’s website or on their mobile app. Tickets can be purchased online, from ticket machines at stations or directly from ticket offices. It is recommended to check train frequencies and make sure you have a valid ticket for your journey.
  • By CarIf you prefer to travel by car, the road from Florence to Certaldo offers flexibility and the opportunity to explore other places along the way. The distance is about 50 kilometres and can be covered in around an hour, depending on traffic. To reach Certaldo, follow the SGC Firenze – Pisa – Livorno (FI-PI-LI) motorway and exit at Empoli, then continue on the SS429 towards Siena until you reach Certaldo. Make sure you have an up-to-date GPS or map, as the side roads can sometimes be confusing.
