Sanremo- attraction for tourists from all over the world

Sanremo. I visited it twice. The first time was in December 2012 when I went to Monte Carlo. After a day of walking around Monte Carlo, on the way back to Milan we also stopped for a while in Sanremo. It was already dark, so we could see the beauty of the city at night by the light of the lit lanterns. We strolled around the centre for a while, then had lunch in a chic restaurant opposite the Casino.

We only knew about Sanremo because it is the city of the most important musical event in Italy, the “Italian Music Festival”, which takes place every year in February.

A year later, in December 2013, the Orthodox Church of Vigevano was to organize a day trip to Sanremo. So I didn’t think twice about it, it was a wonderful opportunity to take my fic’mia to see the sea in the Pimpa and Pepa Pig cartoons.

Sanremo- the city of Italian music

For a winter’s day, the streets of downtown Sanremo were quite busy, with shops swarming with shoppers. I don’t know if it’s always like this or just because it was December, that pre-Christmas rush.

Lugano: A top tourist destination in Switzerland

I could say that Sanremo is not quite as impressive as I thought or imagined. It’s an overly urbanized city that has lost some of its former splendor and glory. Perhaps, now it is still mysteriously made famous by the Festival. Even the Ariston Hall, the venue of the renowned festival looks like a banal cinema from the outside.

What I liked about Sanremo was the impeccable cleanliness of the streets and that it had sidewalks embroidered with flowers. Then, another aspect that stuck in my mind is the cliff. The cliff is huge and gorgeous.

Sanremo is suspended above the sea, like a garden populated with glass flower greenhouses perched on hills. Located just 48km from the French border, Sanremo is a historic town that is home to the world’s most famous Casino.

Sanremo is the fourth largest town in the Liguria region by population and is larger than Imperia, the provincial capital.

An interesting and diverse history

Sanremo was founded in the 19th century and quickly became a point of attraction for tourists from all over the world. The town has had an interesting and diverse history, which has included French and Italian influences. Over time, Sanremo has become an important cultural centre, with numerous festivals and events, such as the Italian Music Festival.
