In the #DiscoverItaly<\/strong> series, this summer we’re discovering new destinations with the smell of the sea. I’m two days back from a mini-vacation by the sea. \u00a0Ah, and how long awaited and desired this holiday was, that I really lived it to the full. Lately I don’t make big plans or dreams anymore: I just prefer to live. So holiday destinations are decided at the last minute, adventuring or exploring new and beautiful places of Italy.<\/p>\n

Because it was a short holiday, we chose to stay close to home anyway: Liguria.<\/p>\n

In Liguria several times, I speak in other posts. Vernazza, Monterosso, Al Bisola, Varazze, Savona, Genoa or Loano are \u00a0other destinations in Liguria that I managed to see!<\/p>\n

This year we chose to spend our holiday in Cogoleto, a municipality in the province of Genoa with a population of 9,137 inhabitants and an area of 20.72 km\u00b2. In fact, the sea and the beaches were in Cogoleto, and we had a rented apartment 4 km from Cogoleto, \u00a0in a village called Sciarborasca,\u00a0about 200m above sea level.<\/p>\n

Cinque Terre: Vernazza, the place to admire works of art<\/a><\/h2>\n

Thus, we combined mountain air with sea air and many hikes on steep paths with beautiful scenery. If you follow me, you already know that I like high, wild, deserted places where I can admire the world or the sea. I’m always looking to climb a cliff somewhere where I can see breathtaking views. Sciarborasca “spared” me this time from climbing on rocks or through trees, because right from the square of this village you can see the whole surroundings: mountains, valleys, \u00a0houses and \u00a0in the distance – the sea.<\/p>\n

Cogoleto – a village of sea wolves<\/h3>\n

At the foot of the mountains is Cogoleto, a former fishing village frequented by sailors and known for its sea bass fishing (sea bass are fish similar to catfish, but with a longer, sharper, silvery body).<\/p>\n

Today Cogoleto is a small, welcoming town, where thousands of tourists annually come to relax on the spacious beaches that stretch for about 30 km from west to east.<\/p>\n

The climate is impressive in this region. When we left home the temperature was 32-33 degrees and it was unbearably hot, when we arrived in Cogoleto at about 4 pm, the same temperature in the thermometer felt different…it was hot, but acceptable, especially the evenings were super cool and pleasant. (and without mosquitoes!!!)<\/p>\n

What can you do in three days in Cogoleto?<\/h3>\n

The town is very well organized, with small streets, many flowers, palm trees, \u00a0the colorful cliff of restaurants, bars, beaches with sun loungers and umbrellas, \u00a0Cogoleto is a clean and welcoming little town. On the beaches you will find all amenities, even the free beach has WC and a few showers where you can rinse off after a swim in the sea or when you want to go home. If you’re bored of sitting on the beach then a stroll around the town will certainly cheer you up, small streets, colourful shops, which to our happiness were not yet very crowded with tourists. We could only imagine what they would look like in August.<\/p>\n

When you are in Liguria, especially just for three days, don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy an aperitif with focaccia, typical of the area, and at dinner don’t miss the chance to taste their fish specialties.<\/p>\n

In Cogoleto every evening you will find an event, life music and concerts. So you can’t get bored. Although, we dodged the crowds and the shows, we finally ended up at \u00a0a concert in\u00a0Sciarborasca, which effectively drove us out of the house at midnight because the music was too loud. Imagine a concert in a small village in the mountains… and you’re sitting on a hill. For better-or-worse, this vacation was perfect, with a full moon, good weather, good mood and lots of love.<\/p>\n
