Although only a few hours from major Italian cities such as Milano or Florence, Moneglia manages to retain a charm untouched by the massive tourist hustle and bustle.
It was mid-September when we arrived in Moneglia; usually at this time of year, Ligurian beaches are still crowded, but not in Moneglia… We found Moneglia quiet, secluded and sheltered from the hustle and bustle of the crowds.
After these delights, we set off for the historic centre of Moneglia, where we discovered an imposing church with traditional architecture, inviting us to cross its threshold and be overwhelmed by the beauty inside.
Near the church, we were greeted by the irresistible aroma from a local focacceria, where we tasted the tastiest Genoese focaccia, a true delicacy that indulged every taste bud.
With our spirits lifted by these culinary experiences, we made our way to Moneglia beach, where we spent the rest of the day.
The beach is well maintained and equipped with various facilities.
As the day turned to evening, we prepared to leave this fairy-tale place, taking the road back to Milan, with beautiful memories and souls filled with the tranquility and beauty of Moneglia. An unforgettable day, full of moments of beauty and relaxation, a true elixir for the soul.
Curious to discover Moneglia? Here’s what you should know about this Ligurian town.
The cultural heart of Moneglia beats in its historic centre, divided in two by a medieval caruggio that once witnessed the passage of fishermen and pilgrims. This, now transformed into the village’s world artery, pulsates with life, hosting local shops, cafés where you can sip an authentic espresso and places where you can enjoy observing everyday life.
The main attraction remains, without doubt, the promenade and the beach, a stretch of sand that boasts more than 20 consecutive blue flags, recognising the exceptional quality of the waters and services.
Also not to be missed are excursions to the surrounding areas, where you can explore other treasures of the Ligurian Riviera, such as Cinque Terre, a UNESCO site, accessible by train or water.
Moneglia Beach, located in the heart of the town, is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery and offers fine sand and turquoise waters, ideal for swimming and relaxing.
Not far from the city centre, La Secca impresses with its wild and secluded landscape and is perfect for those who want to escape into nature.
For nature-loving adventurers, the surrounding area offers hiking trails that reveal unforgettable panoramic views.
